How Templates are Selected


You need to be careful when creating a rule for an email. The rule controls when that email template will be used. The system will always first check based on the items purchased and try to match on this first. Next quantity and cost are checked. Lets say you have a customer who buys item a, itemb and item c. The total cost for these items is $300. Now you have a template that says if item equals c then use this template. You also have a template for any purchase over $200 where you want to send the customer some sort of coupon code to use on their next purchase. In this case the template based on cost will be selected instead of the template for that item.

To make a template work you need to pick a rule. Otherwise the default confirmation email will be generated. If you want the same email for all purchases you can select quantity greater than 0. This will always be a successful match and cause this email to be generated.

Merchant and customer email templates are picked in the same way. In the future when other templates are allowed this will change for those templates.
